Incredibly beautiful

Two words you don't hear often about a surf album. This is arguably not a Man Or Astroman album in the strictest sense, in the sense that by now the standard line-up had been split in half, with both guitarist leaving. Thus the music sounds completely new, completely different, and at the same time fits right into what they were doing all the time. Infinite Scale is really one of their strongest albums; it's also, unfortunately, I believe still their last album to date.

Great Titles

ElectricLarry

The beauty of instumental music: freedom of names. You have to check these out on the strenght of the titles alone. The music by Man or Astro-Man? is of cousre excelent as usual.

It's the very nature of music — of art, even. The Six Degrees features examine the relationships between classic records and five… more »

They Say All Music Guide

Another mix of spaced-out surf and instrumental tracks. The usual goodness from Man or Astro-Man? here, with plenty of bad sci-fi flick samples to start the songs, which all have the requisite clever song titles. The album begins and ends with a Wall of Sound mix of feedback and drums, with washes of ambient synthesizer added for texture. One track in particular stands out. “Simple Text File” is exactly that; a recording of a dot-matrix printer in operation. The fact that tonal variations can result in a possible melody being developed is quite interesting, and used for novel effect here. Overall, A Spectrum of Infinite Scale is another very good collection of tight playing and propulsive instrumentals. – Jeremy Salmon
