Fado must be sung in Portuguese...
Mariza is certainly one of the leading voices of Fado today. Her goal when recording this song was presumably to introduce Fado to a Spanish speaking audience. However, her effort just does not work, for Fado lyrics are written and its melody composed to fit the rhythm of the Portuguese language. I cannot imagine Flamenco sounding true while sung in any language other than Spanish and I feel the same way about Fado. This recording just makes this wonderful Fado song sound devoid of any true feeling and plain commercial.
