This album WAS the summer of 1982. Someday, Someway was the song that ran up the charts (and stayed there), but Mary Anne and Cynical Girl and Soldier of Love and even There She Goes Again seemed to always either be in rotation on the Cleveland-area AOR stations, or just blaring out of dorm rooms and passing cars. He's not done anything quite as good since (I've been waiting and hoping), but for one summer, Crenshaw deserved to be spoken about in the same breath as Elvis Costello and Buddy Holly. Power pop has never been better. Great songs perfectly performed. Brings back great memories of seeing him at the Pier in NYC.
This is an unjustly forgotten gem of early 80's pop. Marshall Crenshaw is as amazing a writer as he is a performer. Make sure you down this version as the bonus tracks (especially "You're My Favorite Waste of Time" and "Rave On") are just as essential as the album itself.
