Marshall Crenshaw

Meakler

Marshall should be up there with all the great ones. His music is stunning. I have all of his albums, but I still can't understand why he never exploded to the top. He should have. Can't go wrong downloading his songs.

Shoulda been a superstar

madformusic

This guy, along with Squeeze, should have had a ton of top 10 hits. His debut album is still one of the best ever nearly 30 years down the line. Great retrospective.

Marshall doin' his Best Buddy Holly

Dude_E

Marshall has the same "problem" as other artists who have hit out of the Park on the 1st try. It's gotta be hard to do better, when you start out on top. But Marshall has always aimed way high & if you love Pop Music...just download this. there is NO risk here just great songs

A Nice Slice of Crenshaw

Evil-Thing

While the CD has four additional songs that are not listed here, this is still a nice introduction to Marshall Crenshaw, with selections mainly from his albums "Marshall Crenshaw", "Field Day", and "Downtown". Crenshaw is a master of thoughtful lyrics and melody, whether rocking out ("Little Wild One"), bemoaning a lost love ("There She Goes Again"), or offering a backhanded compliment ("You're My Favorite Waste of Time"). There are no schmaltzy love songs here - Crenshaw works the edges of the emotion, capturing certain upbeat moments and feelings perfectly in word and tune ("Whenever You're On My Mind", "This Is Easy") as well as the downside ("Like A Vague Memory", "You Should've Been There"). My only complaint with this compilation is that it's too short by four, and the four left off were some of his better work.

Awesome Compilation

chicvibe

this is an excellent introduction to Marshall Crenshaw. Even though there is some overlap, the original albums that the compilation draws from are also well worth it, especially Downtown and Mary Jean and 9 others. His music is well crafted and stands the test of time.
