Listen to Martha Tilston!
I second IanB's rave review. Martha Tilston is writing songs that are gentle, playful and open-minded and singing with a voice that simply melts my heart. Not only does she have a unique voice and delivery, but she sings the reality of love, growing, life, work and spirituality with no conventionality, describing life in an open-eyed way like Colin Wilson or Loren Eiseley. The songs on this album seem to hold autobiographical detail than the songs on earlier albums. If I hear the words right, Sophie is her big sister, and the Architect and the Milkmaid are her grandparents. "Artificial" has the best political content; it deserves to be in everybody's perennial collection. "Songs that Make Sophie Fizz" is a dance of joy. She sings traditional ballads with a twist that is so subtle you may not hear it on first listening. Listen to her earlier albums: particularly "Ropeswing" and "Mouse Tales".
