purpose and grace

Had this on my i-pod for a couple of weeks and still thinking of the live version of 'Brother can you spare a dime' which was one of the highlights of Celtic Connextion in Glasgow. The version on this album also delivers the same feel that leaves a tingle after you hear it. This album continues with Simpson's unique guitar sound that has a maturity and passion, not a party album but one for calm reflection when you can listen and be still.

Stunning - as ever.

This isn't going to be a long review. The emotional and technical abilities of Martin Simpson's guitar work is well known - though far less than a sane world would demand and this is yet another quite beautiful outing. In recent years he's seemed more prolific than ever. I'm not a huge fan of Dick Gaughan's singing but I guess it breaks up the album though I do love just hearing Mr Simpson's voice and guitar. No dud tracks and yet another classic. Try it.

Martin Simpson on best form

This record has received some very positive reviews in the Sun Times and Telegraph, and as the Guadian adds, while Simpson's guitar and arrangements are great, sharing the vocals with Gaughan and Tabor was inspired. Guest slot from Richard Thompson on guitar too. As the Telegraph says, not a dud track in sight, and his best outing for years.
