Heavy drummer

Mary's grace is hammered to death by the drummer's heavy hand. Ruined it for me.

Mary Barrett

These songs are beautifully offered to the Lord as only Mary Barrett can do. I came to know Jesus, my Savior, at Calvary Chapel in Merrit Island, where God was using Mary's music to minister to me as well as my family. My father, mother, brother, two sisters came to know the Lord through the ministry of this church. May God continue to reveal Himself through Mary's music.

Beautifully rendered old hymns!

Skuuter

I am not a fan of contemporary worship songs, primarily for the reason they just don't reveal a deep relationship with God. That's not to infer that no contemporary song writer doesn't have a deep and abiding relationship with their saviour, but the old hymns speak of victories over sorrow, despair and doubt which are accomplished only through perseverance and trust in God. I stumbled upon May Barrett's work and can say that her versions of these old hymns are done beautifully, simply and reverently. It also doesn't hurt that she is a very talented singer/musician. Two songs on this album are my favorites: Sweet Hour of Prayer and Come Ye Sinners. The former brings me to tears when she sings the last verse which typifies the hope of all true believers, to depart this life in order to be with the One we love. I hope she records even more of these old hymns. See her other Hymn compilation, Take My Life, as well.
