Diverse and Unpredictable Downtempo
This album is peppered with all sorts of influences, from dub and Asian, to funk and psychedelic, resulting in a rich, varied tapestry of tracks. Happily, the electric guitar make an appearance in a few, as do psychedelic sounds of all descriptions. Others showcase flutes, Asian string instruments and nature sounds; I have to admit, I don't usually like nature sounds in music, but they somehow didn't feel as contrived here. Heavy bass-lines feature in several tracks, and there are some great percussion beats going on, but most tracks are still building up well after the halfway point. On occasions I felt a bit bored waiting for something to kick in, but generally the waiting improved the atmospherics If you want a couple of sample tracks, grab 2 and 4. Unfortunately, two of the better tracks are only available if you buy the full album, but listening via Spotify may help you decide if you want to commit. I'd have given it 3.5 if possible.
