Call in the specters of the 80s with today's technology and songwriting smarts...you get this sexy collection! Matinee Club offers us a real album today that sounds like they stepped directly out of a time capsule. Exceptionally passionate - overtly dramatic - very fabulous. Heavily reliant on Berlin's work circa "Love Life", Madonna a'la "You Can Dance". There is really just a smear of new in this, Matinee Club's modus operandi appears to be stuck on the 1985 timeline, with some very slick toys and production techniques at their disposal. Tracks like "Seven Oceans" exploit each instrument in that pro-post-disco method, shamelessly borrow from the dramedy of yesteryear. The "least" faithful track is that of the Bowie classic "Modern Love", which is just what the doctor ordered. It's purposefully deviant from the original, but really accentuates the beauty of the melody of the original track as a less 'poppy' or 'fun' party song.
