I would find it impossible to not give this album the full respect it deserves, unless I didn't listen to it all the way through (ahem...see other review). The second track boasts of a wonderful bassline and melody with an almost Krautrock feel. If you don't have the patience to let Matmos lead you through their web of aural ecstasy, I pity you.
Matmos made their name with strange IDM-like music based on very unusual sounds, notably those of plastic surgery. That record was pretty icky, but it still worked as music. This "rat" record is obviously the same sort of concept, but taken a step further, and for me a step too far. No thanks.

Björk's got a lot going for her: eccentric songwriting, visual presence, a smartly chosen bunch of collaborators, high-flying conceptual grandeur. More than anything, though, she's got a voice like nothing else on the planet. It's bizarre and lovely, a sound that seems at home both on radio hits and in avant-garde art spaces.
