Matthew Burtner’s chilling pieces of music are created by an alchemy of modern technology and “primitive musical sources such as stones.” Inspired by the fearsome Alaskan wilderness, his creations are another example of inventive American composition found in the Innova roster. Directly inspired by photographing ice formations on the Banff River, this album is complex and turbulent as the geological forces that created the beauty of Banff. – Tom Schulte
