Cringeworthy

Clafou

I bought this on CD in a shop some years ago... Terrible choice, a studio album would have been so much better. On this recording he sang with another French guy whose voice is beyond irritating, and it was obviously recorded in a big commercial venue (MC Solaar is well known and quite mainstream in France) and it sounds completely tasteless.

They Say All Music Guide

Though he had never strayed too far, Le Tour de La Question returns Solaar to his roots in jazz-rap. Similar to his classic Prose Combat, it’s a set of funky hip-hop with just the right amount of samples and Solaar’s complementary rapping style, which always takes into account the production. It’s a relief that he appears to have little concern for what’s hitting the charts in America, since so many American rappers (and labels) follow whatever is hot when they’re recording. He just keeps on making great hip-hop with a bit of jazz and a bit of old-school flavor. Available in limited quantities, a special two-disc set of Le Tour de La Question includes deluxe packaging and a book. – John Bush
