Cephas!!! (meaning stone)

rhoadess

I am very familiar with the New Testament thus the story of the apostle Peter and his epistles. Card's treatment of this apostle's life in song is just brilliant, and it refreshed my memory of Peter's strengths, and weaknesses, reminding me that we can't do it without Jesus' helping hand, all along the way.

I love this

While not Card's best work, this album is nonetheless a masterpiece. I give it five stars. If Card's previous works were here, there would not be enough stars to give them.

I left everything to follow you

Michael Card's music has always spoken to my heart. His song "I left everything to follow you" is right where I am at right now.

Disappointing

I thought Michael had retired from music after "Soul Anchor" and was going to focus on writing books. I can't tell you how painful it is for me to say that, when I heard this album, I wished that I had been right! I honestly believe that these songs were an afterthought. He wrote the book 'A Fragile Stone' about the Apostle Peter and was undoubtedly pushed to produce a companion album. He took the opportunity to collaborate with some interesting people: Bela Fleck, Vance Taylor & long-time friend Scott Roley. But the song writing seems weak to me. There are some high points: the jazzy banjo/piano duet on “Sea of Souls”, the soulful “Not That Kind Of King” (with Darwin Hobbs) and the lively bluegrass of “Walking on the Water”. He remakes “Stranger on the Shore” from his first album. Perhaps I would appreciate the other songs more if I read the book...
