Quiet moments magnified
These small sound-pictures are derived from snippets of urban field recordings that are sparsely overlaid and contrasted. The effect is to take the sounds one might hear just sitting quietly in various environments and put them under the microscope. The result is magnified, not distorted, and is quite engaging to the patient and curious ear. Like much of the music on Line, this recording is quiet, subtle, and unhurried. (The uncharacteristic briefness of the tracks on this recording suit their materials perfectly.) Although very far away from the droney end of the spectrum -- quite its opposite in fact -- it's definitely for that subset of people for whom music is meditation, where, as per John Cage's dictum, the sounds of the world around us are musical if we listen to them as such.
