Revelation

Average-Nights-Jack

What a truly pleasant suprise, this album is a terrific melting pot of various genres and styles that really succeeds in producing a funky soul/blues/jazz sound, quite unlike anything around today. A great horn section generates a mix of Memphis Horns, TOP & EW&F whilst the rhythm section are very, very tight (N'Awlins inspired) propelling some super songs. Vocals too are excellent and I'm looking forward to seing these guys live in January on Delberts Sandy Beaches Cruise. Here in Britain you could describe their sound as a cross between AWB and Jamiriqui, but what strikes me most is that as much as I admire and love Jools Holland and his Rhythm & Blues Orchestra, this is what I wish they did sound like. Don't be put off by the name, Mingo Fishtrap are quite unique and well worth having in your collection.

mingo funks

drum1

i was turned on to mingo by a drummer friend. they are the greatest 'discovery' i have made in a long long time. i live near baton rouge and i missed their only known stop here. i can't wait to see them live. sometimes they sound like a great new orleans funk band; other times like a younger version of TOP. if you dig that funk then download ALL of these babies, and pray for more, more, more.

Just listen to a few samples and you're hooked. Great stuff. I just hope EMusic puts some more Mingo Fishtrap up soon.

JazzFunkSoulDaddy

If you dig soulinfestedfunkmusik, these guys are the best thing going. Great songwriting, tight horns, and a slamming rhythm section.
