OMG!

JoeKlondike

I've been looking for "Revenge" ever since it was on MTV heavy rotation! I just never knew who sang it or the name of the song. All I remembered was the chorus and the singers spiked mohawk. FINALLY!

This wasn't mainstream then, nor now

To hell with the later industrial claptrap - this is just damn good! Yes, the techniques are a little dated, but to think what could have happened in the five years between this and "Land of Rape and Honey" - it must've been traumatic! People have mentioned Human League, but I'd say the vocals and horns are closer to ABC - it might be pop, but at the time it was NEW pop, and could be just as subversive as industrial or noise (what good's your message if the people you're talking against aren't listening to it?)

who knew?

They were a pretty boy dance synth band, but also very good, Revenge is a great lost new wave song.

I can't believe it's Ministry!

saremks

I like 80's tinged electronic music. If you do too, you'll probably like this. If you're looking for the other Ministry stuff that is fast, loud and has offensive lyrics you'll hate it. What I find amazing is how well this album sounds and the fact they abandoned this sound. A great track from this era that is not on this album is "Everyday is Halloween" - the EP it is on is A+.

Yes, not even close to Metal, but a great album. I've been listening to Ministry from this album forward. I can appreciate this as well as Rio Grande Blood. Just remember, everyday is Halloween.

synthpop!

EMUSIC-1967

Before Ministry found their(his) calling Al put out the Human League sounding synthpop album. If you like early 80's music you'll love this. If you like "jesus built my hotrod" you'll hate this. This is the only album by Ministry that has this sound!

HAHAHAHAHA!

Good one, filing this under metal! This album blows, seek out live recordings from this era of Ministry and you'll hear these songs done WELL, no lie, but leave this abortive and unlistenable major-label compromise the hell alone.

New This Week: Madonna, Mirel Wagner, Billy Hart & More

By J. Edward Keyes, Editor-in-Chief

Madonna decided to wreak a little havoc by releasing her 12th album, MDNA, yesterday instead of today, which caused a host of other acts to do the same thing. To which I say: NICE WORK, SHEEP. We'll forgive you this time. Here's what I found. Tell me what I missed in the comments. Madonna, MDNA: Madonna's 12th album finds her reuniting with producer William Orbit on several tracks, teaming with M.I.A. and Nicki Minaj on another… more »

Who Are…Pop. 1280

By Matthew Fritch, eMusic Contributor

Getting under your skin has been Pop. 1280's business since 2009, when the Brooklyn-based industrial/noise outfit issued the appropriately titled "Bedbugs" 7-inh. Led by singer Chris Bug and guitarist Ivan Lip, the band's commitment to provocation knows no bounds: We suppose you could do worse than open your debut album by shouting "Two dogs fucking!" but we'd have to comb through some pretty dark corners of eMusic's catalog in order to suggest something more foul.… more »

They Say All Music Guide

Rather than the trademark bone-munching industrial metal of later years, With Sympathy is panto-goth new wave synth-pop that sounds less like the band chewing your pancreas and more like Human League’s surly little brother. Great stuff, then, for those who allied themselves with Ally Sheedy’s character in The Breakfast Club. “Here We Go” grinds all over some electronic horns, “Work for Love” stop-starts and shouts about like “Walk This Way” without all that scary rap, and the whole record becomes a secret weapon against the contrived snarls of the albums to follow. Surely, Al Jourgensen must be more insecure about his past than a superstar linebacker over childhood courses in ballet. – Dean Carlson
