  • We Say...

The bulk of this three-disc live recording is somewhat uneven; stick it out till the end, though, and you'll find one of the most brilliant cover versions recorded by anyone in recent years. When leader Kevin Russell sets in to strumming his mandolin in confident rhythm and singing in rapid-fire hillbilly-twang rhyme, it's the launchpad of a monster bridge between bluegrass and rap as the Gourds turn Snoop Dogg's "Gin & Juice" into bona fide mountain music.
