  • They Say...

I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness' debut self-titled EP was produced by Britt Daniel of Spoon. That takes care of the major reference point right away. The bands share a sparse, tense sound and I Love You But I've Chosen Darkness has a similar knack for crafting songs with jagged and sticky hooks. The six tracks on the record are all tough, angular, and new wave influenced (Wire, Echo, the Cure); "We're Still the Weaker Sex" and "When You Go Out" are the strongest, but "Your Worst Is the Best" simply thrills with its heartbreaking melody and breathtaking keyboard breaks. This is the work of a band from which fans should expect great things. Get this disc and then put buying the band's full-length near the top of your "to do in 2004" list.
