  • They Say...

Jugular is the second album singer-songwriter Bill Mallonee recorded as the Vigilantes of Love, after Driving The Nails (although Killing Floor was released first). It's one of his best records, and certainly his most intimate. The VoL lineup this time (it has changed on every album) consists only of Mallonee on guitar and Marcus Aurelius Hall on accordion, plus occasional drums and harmonica. Listening to this CD is like sitting in Mallonee's living room for a quiet two-man jam session. His smart lyrics are at their most personal here, and the songs are alternatingly insightful, moving and playful. He delivers them with an eccentric vocal style that is well suited to this rootsy format.
