Dark and Twisted Space-Age Americana
The Country, Blues and Americana influences remain strong on Muleskinner Jones' debut full-length LP, but don't go expecting some wishy-washy alt-country nonsense here. There's as many parts Captain Beefheart as Johnny Cash, and as much Birthday Party or Butthole Surfers as Hank Williams. The ghosts of Mark E Smith and The Fall hover ominously over the proceedings and a rich vein of black humour runs throughout. Genre conventions are gleefully discarded and musical curveballs come from practically every direction. A fantastically disorientating record. You need it.
