From a trailer park in the depths of space...

muleskinner

After the debut EP 'Terrible Stories' this mini-LP from Muleskinner Jones is the first to feature his own material. Prepare yourself for an alluring and irresistible swamp-like concoction of murder ballads, hillbilly death chants, Hicksville voodoo blues and shadowy lit cowpunk. It's not often you find an LP as hard to pigeonhole as this. Johhny Dowd is the closest reference point I can think of, in that it fits loosely within the 'Americana' genre whilst gleefully throwing out the rule book. You'll also hear echoes of Beefheart, The Handsome Family, Gallon Drunk, Nick Cave, even Beck at points. My favourite track is the epic 'Truckstop Funeral'. Also try the very English murder ballad 'Come Inside, Stranger' which starts out as a sweet little folk ditty before plumbing unforseen depths of death and depravity. S*d it - it's all great - download the lot! But don't waste your downloads on the shorter throwaway tracks which you can get for free from muleskinnerjones dot com.
