Count Nancy Moore among the fine bluegrass singers (including Clinch Mountain Boy Charlie Sizemore) who have recorded the songs of Tom T. Hall. Here, Moore offers listeners a whole album’s worth of Hall material, from the classic bluegrass of “High Lonesome Love” to the heart-rending balladry of “Your Memory Followed Me Home.” (Dixie Hall, who has a few co-writes here, is credited as a producer.) Moore has a voice that calls to mind Dale Ann Bradley, a sincere, gorgeous instrument devoid of any histrionics (though this young singer, who makes her debut here, certainly has a ways to go before she is in league with labelmate Bradley). She really does make these tracks her own, though, even smoothly story-talking her way through “Taylor County Jail” and “Joe.” Industry people must really see something in Moore, as there’s a whole parcel of notable guests here and Tom T. Hall financed the record. A good effort. – Erik Hage
