well worth the listening
This is a great example of late-romanticism in the Russian vein. His work reflect the talents of his teacher, Tchaikovsky, but he offers a new sensibility and works with innovative forms and orchestrations. I've listened to the Oresteia overture again and again, and am continually surprised and pleased. If nothing else, give this one overture a try. I also highly recommend Taneyev's At the Reading of a Psalm. Hunters of new romantic treasures will be pleased with these works.
