Hit by the loudness war
I like this one. The tunes are grander than NZCA Lines' debut and as a whole the album follows a moving emotional arc: it feels, fittingly enough, like a holiday romance at the end of the world. My biggest criticism is the production: the whole thing has been compressed to within an inch of its life, and it sounds like the tracks clip in a number of places. The songs have been distorted for the sake of a little extra loudness, and they really didn't need to be. Which is frustrating, because otherwise this is catchy, affecting, nostalgic, clever and creative stuff, and well worth a listen.
