The breezy charm of Canadian rockers Octoberman is well displayed on their third full-length album, Fortresses. Frontman Marc Morrissette sings in a hushed whisper, the perfect volume for wistful songs about lost loves and remembrances of things past. On the sweetly plaintive "Thirty Reasons" a dejected lover tries to convince his beloved to stay with him, while she's got thirty reasons why she should go. It pulls at the heartstrings, but the backing vocals are too peppy to venture too deeply into sorrow.
