Holy Crap!

EMUSIC-00126908

I was just messing around on www.bnrmetal.com (encyclopedia of history of metal), and was reminded of this CD. I thought "No way that emusic would have this. But, here it is. Happy Day! One of the best metal albums I've ever heard. If you like this, I'd suggest checking out how Paul Mahoney ended up doing vocals on this masterpiece.

Oh yeah, I remember this album

Yep, I remember this now. My buddy Brian had it, we all called him Beaks. Strange guy, always did things differently than everyone else, certainly no poser, he was hardcore all the way. I liked this album, better than the later stuff that everyone else was listening to, becuase their later stuff had the cheesy vocals, and sounded like every other speed metal band. This album is definately more thrash. You can hear the British hardcore influences. Many aspects, the drumming, the vocals, the guitar tone, remind me of GBH. Thanks for the memories emusic.

Old School Thrash

jgregor

Pretty raw and a bit blackened, like old Sodom. But not "proto death metal" as suggested above. They're thrash, despite the 'Death Metal' song title. Oh, and someone has once more (again, like old Sodom!) managed to mix up the track titles. Doh!

Originally released in 1985 and reissued a couple of times since, Onslaught’s debut album Power from Hell mines territory similar to that of early Slayer, making these Britishers one of the first bands to begin refining that sound into what would become death metal. Still, this is early material, and it isn’t as well executed as other death prototypes, although those fascinated with the genre’s roots will want to have a listen. – Steve Huey
