A Disaster

WorldFusionRadio.com

After two incredible albums I was so excited to hear about a third Oojami album. Shockingly they abandon the sound that made their first two albums so amazing. All of the soul and driving rhythms are gone, replaced with a tinny klezmer beat and really ridiculous hip-hop rapping. From ethno techno to milquetoast hip-hop klezmer? What the heck happened? Very sad. This one bombed sales wise and no suprise there. I wonder if we've heard the last of Oojami.

The entire album is worth downloading. Listed to "Shake that Belly" and "Dark Ages" for examples of the best layered, multi-cultural rhythms.

They Say All Music Guide

Oojami have been a significant creative force on the world music scene, with plenty of fresh ideas. There’s still a mixture of various instruments and ideas on Boom Shinga Ling (the Irish fiddle in “Shake That Belly,” for instance), and the beats are for the dancefloor, with a number of rappers over the top. The back cover says that this is what they’re like on-stage, and it may work best in a club atmosphere, as the rappers say all the right things with calls for justice and peace. – Chris Nickson
