Symphonic Masterpiece(s)
George Tsontakis is one of our greatest living composers. In these Four Orchestral Quartets -- inspired by T.S. Eliot's 'Four Quartets' -- Tsontakis has written music that is at once rugged (in a Beethovenian sense) and visionary (in a Sibelian sense), and that speaks in a language that is clearly contemporary yet firmly rooted in the past. It's not "easy listening," to be sure, but neither is it impenetrable, as so much new music is. Indeed, there are moments of breathtaking beauty that should move any listener with open ears.
