From the good folks at Ubiquity comes this unstoppable slab of funk-rock. The evocative 70s feel is dead-on, from the steamy, howling vocals of lead singer Fanny Franklin to the phalanx of horns to the Hammond Rhodes and clavinet. Cali Fever burns with the sweltering heat of the best 70s funk. The "rock" part of the equation is for real, too: check the guitar tones on "The Last Fool," which bulk up the normal skittering, chicken-scratch funk-guitar sound with thick, shaggy distortion worthy of a stoner rock record. "It's Time Tonight" cools things off just a bit with a late-disco feel and a purring, heavy-lidded vocal turn from Franklin.
