Orgone, Cali Fever
Label: Ubiquity Records

From the good folks at Ubiquity comes this unstoppable slab of funk-rock. The evocative 70s feel is dead-on, from the steamy, howling vocals of lead singer Fanny Franklin to the phalanx of horns to the Hammond Rhodes and clavinet. Cali Fever burns with the sweltering heat of the best 70s funk. The "rock" part of the equation is for real, too: check the guitar tones on "The Last Fool," which bulk up the normal skittering, chicken-scratch funk-guitar sound with thick, shaggy distortion worthy of a stoner rock record. "It's Time Tonight" cools things off just a bit with a late-disco feel and a purring, heavy-lidded vocal turn from Franklin.

Love Orgone

mroserocks

I love this band and I agree with Gawd. They are sick, and Ms Fanny is incredible. you have not seen them live go, they play everywhere and it seems like all the time. I know they will get big, I just know it. This is quality Funk

Mean beats and dirty horns

Meaney

More uptempo, dirty, and 70s-ghetto-a-la-Lalo-Schifrin than their previous effort, The Killion Floor. "The Cleaner" is a mean example.

i copped "cali fever" and "it's time tonight." they really pay homage to fela's legacy, with some strong soulful house influence, as well.

These guys deserve more

GAWD

I don't understand why Orgone doesn't have a bigger following. I dare you to stand still when their music is playing. Go see them live. They really shine when they are on stage.
