but I should have got it at JunoDownload, where you can choose a higher bitrate (for a higher price). They also offer WAV / Flac files for many albums. Until eMusic gets with the times, I'll download electronic stuff there instead. Great album though - there's only one track I don't play, which is 382 Seaside. TIP: After downloading this, I discovered Blumenkraft by the same artist on Spotify. It's excellent but unfortunately isn't available on eMusic. Luckily, you can download it at at Jumo instead!
All in all a good album, but track 2 has to be one of the best electronica tracks ever made...
One of the nicest electronica albums I've downloaded in quite a while! Beautiful mix of styles and rhythms from beginning to end. Gonna be listening to this one a lot. Highly recommended!
At the initial listen, fans of the first album might be disappointed with the different style of Skylon. I was. After listening to the album on headphones in peace, the album really grew on me. "From Trunch to Stromness" opens slowly and peacefully with a rhythm and sampling that reminds me of the mindset of adventure of childhood. Then, the album ebbs and flows between some soft peaks, a few catchy rhythms, and pure ambient landscapes.
One of my favorite albums. It could have a higher bitrate, with the average track being around 165 kbps. Music is 5 stars, but I'm giving it 4 stars because of the low bitrate.
If you like downtempo, chilly, dubby electronica you can't go wrong with this album. It's great, lots of rich textures and beats. Get the previous album as well!
This is better than his first work. Much simpler sound with real nice groove. I love this album so much.
Seems like Ott has taken a wee little influence from Banco de Gaia (Rogue Bagel, Signals from Bob) and Pink Floyd (A Shower of Sparks). On Rogue Bagel (which is a great track) he also uses the same vocal sample, it seems, that Cell used in Orange. Really, I love those chilled out dub beats and all in all, this is a rather nice little album and enough different from Blumenkraft to be definitely worth a grab. From Trunch to Stromness, Rogue Bagel and A Shower of Sparks make nice impressions at first listen, but nothing here really has the massive impact of Jack's Cheese and Bread Snack or Smoked Glass and Chrome from Blumenkraft.
The much anticipated new Ott album titled Skylon has been released on Twisted Records, after what seemed like an eternal wait for his sophomore release after an exceptional debut, Blumenkraft. Ott has also been responsible for the Hallucinogen album called In Dub which was, well, still is, amazing. So how does Skylon compare, and was it worth the wait? In this listener's mind, yes. But put simply, Skylon doesn't offer anything new to the Psydub genre, so if you're looking for more of the same from Ott, you'll be happy with Skylon. Although I still tend to feel like Blumenkraft is superior to Skylon. After a few listens, I give Skylon a 4/5. I originally gave Blumenkraft a 5/5.
