Dioubate, a splendid singer with strong traditional Sahelian chops, comes from Kankan (meaning in-group nudge). She’s backed by the usual Afro-Parisian studio zoukous suspects. But thanks perhaps to Ibrahima Sylla’s production, the zoukoid and (very pretty) steelbandish trimmings work right well. – John Storm Roberts
