ROCK'n'ROLL!!!!!
ROCK'n'ROLL!
ROCK'n'ROLL!
A damn near perfect album, best listened very loud, beginning to end. It's only the second album I own by them, but it seems much more focused than Mapmakers.
"Receivers" lacks some of the in-your-face force of 2007's "Mapmaker" (probably due in part to the replacement of drummer Chris Weingarten, who can be properly characterized as a free-floating force of nature). That said, it's an easier - and better - listen for it. On Receivers, P&L explores a bit more dynamic and stylistic territory, pushing towards more pop hooks while retaining an underlying current of carefully-controlled noise and chaos. Put it on your heavy rotation.
Chaotic yet melodic shambolic yet focused. their best yet!
i prefer the full-on high speed blast of Mapmaker, but this record is good too. slower tempos are the rule here, but still P&L build highly tuneful songs around an amazing array of samples and noises, with vocal melodies reminiscent of Husker Du. Nowhere's Nigh is probably the pick of the bunch.
