Speechless
Picture that dark enshrouded corner. See the solitary figure bathed in the weak light of a single street lamp, the light gleams dully off the brass of a trumpet or sax. That iconic picture of the lone jazz trumpeter is what kept coming to mind as I listened to this album. Big audio spaces are left carelessly open while the trumpet, bass sax, snare drum and keyboard background create the perfect picture of haunted blues. Just like the player on the street corner, where the notes echo off the tall building surrounding him, these compositions linger around in the space the composer creates. Lovingly played and arranged with a loose hand, this collection of music is the essence of deeply reflective. I recommend starting with tracks 1,2 and 6. "Simpatico," "A Man to See You Mrs. Carter" and "Intermission."
