Not the best way to remember Paul Motian

Petra Haden and Bill Frisell recorded an album sans rhythm section than had a lot more life than this quartet session. This oddly monotonous, even listless program of standards doesn't do that earlier album justice. As for Paul Motian, his contribution here is pretty minimal. You're far better off downloading one of the early Paul Motian Trio recordings.

RIP Jazz Great Paul Motian, 1931-2011

The jazz world mourned a great loss on Nov. 22, when legendary drummer Paul Motian passed away early in the morning at New York's Mount Sinai Hospital at the age of 80. Motian had a distinctive sound on drums.
