"Inspiration in a Heavenly Realm"
Paul Winter's finest?A seamless blend of world, new age, nature sounds and jazz, even some Bach. The piece was composed to celebrate well-known architect I.M. Pei’s Miho Museum in the Shigaki Mountains of Japan. One must travel first through a soundproof tunnel and then across a suspension bridge over a beautiful gorge to reach the structure. The album is quiet and introspective while musically interesting. Listen for the three note motif throughout. The Paul Winter Consort includes Paul Winter playing soprano sax; Armenian musician Arto Tuncboyaciyan, vocals and sazabo; Paul McCandless, woodwinds; Steve Gorn, bansuri; Eugene Friesen, cello; Glen Velez, percussion; Don Grusin keyboard; Dhruba Ghosh, sarangi; Yukiko Matsuyama, koto; the Shumei Taiko Ensemble; Yangjin Lamu, vocals; Tim Brumfield, organ; Café, percussion; Jordan Rudess, keyboard; Eriko Koide, carillon; The Shumei Chorus, conducted by Hiroko Matsui. Nominated for a 2010 Grammy award. Perfect for a serene afternoon
