Invigorating

MrD1953

I first heard this music 15 years ago and found it energizing to hear and fascinating in the combination of almost tribal music and jazz. I have not tired of it all these years and when my cassette tape was lost, I just had to find it again. Its a classic keeper and never tiresome to hear. Everyone I play if for finds it exciting and a great listen.

They Say All Music Guide

Billed as the album of original music created by Americans and Russians together, this album features Halley, Velez, guitarist Oscar Castro-Neves, and cellist Eugene Friesen collaborating on some selections with the Dmitri Pokrovsky Singers, a vocal ensemble rooted in the tradition of Russian village music. Traditional music from throughout Russia is mixed with Winter’s Brazilian-influenced sound. There are also some beautiful instrumentals and, true to Winter’s style, some natural sounds, most notably the calls of the Alaskan tundra wolf and Russian loon. – Linda Kohanov
