Ninth by Peter Murphy

The king reigns. I saw him in 2000 or so with Siouxsie and The Creatures, a superb showman returns with another rollicking, smart, fresh, uptempo rock album. The voice is clear and direct. Just like the Bauhaus set at Coachella, this stuff rocks. A legendary frontman with another great record.

Waiting a long time

I didn't get into Peter Murphy much until I picked up the newly-released Cascade on a whim. It quickly became one of my favorite albums and left me to wait eagerly for his follow-up. I snagged a copy of Dust the day it was released -- it didn't connect with me at all and left me utterly disappointed. Unshattered was one of the first albums I downloaded from eMusic and while it wasn't as disappointing as Dust, it was completely forgettable. After all this, I came to Ninth with some reservations but this was the album I was looking for all those years ago. Tracks 2,4,6 & 7 are my early favorites but the others are growing on me quickly.

Are We Really This Old??

robbeek

Sometime, must have been almost 20 years ago, I hear "Indigo Eyes" on the Edge in Dallas, our first attempt at a "new wave" station. I was instantly hooked, called the dj and asked who the artist was. He dropped the name, Peter Murphy, leaving me completely blank. He then explained that Murphy was in a band called Bauhaus, something I knew only because of the film "The Hunger." See, I was already "old" then. Anyway, got myself schooled in all things Murphy and Bauhaus and have never looked back. Peter, thanks...loving the sound of this one.
