This is solid dark ambient. It's not the most memorable set of tracks, and feels more like a soundtrack to a video game. Heck, one song is called "Dead Space," even. (Ha ha.) The tracks do not have a strong narrative drive to them that could keep me interested for more a couple listens. Stronger, more distinct moments within the tracks are a few and far between. A couple tracks are throwaway pieces that are lodged between the stronger pieces here. Still, not altogether a bad album. But I can't remember when I head a truly bad dark ambient record. What usually happens is it stays floating in the monochromatic wash that makes up most of the genre. Astral Unity is "take it or leave it" territory.
