Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra, Nicholas McGegan, Handel: Water Music
1988 | Label: harmonia mundi / IODA

Few pieces in the classical repertory are quite so familiar (if not overly well-trod terrain) as Handel's "Water Music." But this enduring warhorse is reinvigorated in this polished, warm and colorful account from the Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra and conductor Nicholas McGegan. In their consummately capable hands, every texture is thrown into sharp relief; every gesture seems spontaneous and genuinely new. The result is a fresh listening experience that should please even the most jaded aficionados.
