The name is likely to make you think of some half-hearted Guided by Voices side project, but Porn Sword Tobacco is actually an alias for Henrik Jonsson, who recorded this self-titled EP in a studio in northern Sweden. The producer shapes several oft-used ambient recording components — burrs of noise, the sound of crickets at night, distant pianos, the occasional rhythmic device, good old hum and soft crackle — into a series of brief tracks that work best when left to the background. Unlike the best work of Jonsson’s inspirations, there’s not much to escape to; and, after you’ve heard it once or twice, little from it calls you back to put it on again. – Andy Kellman
