Once upon a time in the Midlands
Prolapse were an awkward lot. They got lumped in with the burgeoning British Riot Grrrl scene despite having just one female member, yet they had more in common with the more experimental acts that had been springing up since shoegazing was finally put out of its misery. Welding The Fall's abrasiveness to Stereolab's way with repetition, they had a sound that was timely and somehow all their own. Live they were reliably awesome, all onstage dramatics and motorik grooves - they put the rock into post-rock. Prolapse ought to have conquered continents. Instead they just made a handful of great records that easily stand the test of time. Along with crisps and Gary Lineker, reasons for Leicester to be proud.
