For me the remixing of Burnside's grooves on this album were my introduction to his music. Long before I went back up the ladder of time to his more sparse recordings I was grabbed by the lines, hooks and simplicity of how he did the blues.
this is a great dirty nasty album. great for a house party of a hot saturday night.
Definitely not for purists! but has a raw energy that gets under your skin....
Although many purists will not enjoy the effects introduced to Burnside's Mississippi Hill sound by Beck producer Tom Rothrock, this is still the Blues at its core. A meshing of old-school heart and soul with new-school beats and production brings an experience unlike any other.
R.L. BURNSIDE, HE IS THE MAN, 'KING BURNSIDE' If you dont like it your either deaf or dead!!!
If this does not have you bobbing your head, tapping your feet and grinning like carpet scooting dog then check your pulse because you are not alive my friend.Regardless of how it was done, the marriage of RL's gritty electric bluesman with modern effects works.
This is a great album. Purist may not like the electro-beat, but it's the sound that counts. Put this on when you're driving into town and tell me I'm wrong!
Probably the best he's ever done! Consistently high quality.
