The Family Tree: The Roots Album

Simply amazing. I have listened to this album straight through several times and can't get enough. It's a little dark and moody but so moving. Favorite tracks: Black Eyes, Severus and Stone, Ghost Towns (!!) and Always Gold.

Go for Ghost first

METHODATTACK

The Radical Face album Ghost is far superior to this one. Check that one out first.

Radical Face. Unfortunate choice of name . . .

. . . but truly sublime music, full of mystery, cinematic scope and timeless melodies. It's not without its influences, namely Simon & Garfunkle harmonies, and the Shins melancholic atmospherics wrapped in wood smoke and ashes. Ben Cooper, the face behind Radical Face, is crafting songs with depth and nuance that stand head and shoulders above the glut of current indie music. This record demands more than the casual listen, but for those who surrender to its charms will be rewarded with a kaledoscopic trip into a 19th century southern gothic family libretto. and this is just part one of a trilogy! If there is any justice, this record will be on everybody's best of 2011 list.

I'm really impressed by the depth of Radical Face's songwriting and production. This is an inspiring balance between the power of focused production and the sincerity of the imperfect. I love it.
