LSO is first-rate here

Harfang

...It probably always is. Anyway, the feeling of depth in this recording is vast, which makes it prime impressionism. Do NOT get the Naxos recording of the Nocturnes -- even from the preview clips I could hear the relative flatness and lack of dimensions. You must be able to discern the difference between subtle choral music and "mood music" (or whatever they're calling it these days) to enjoy Debussy's works that include vocals. If this makes no sense to you, try Vivaldi or something.

Sea-sick?

Metamorphosen

If La Mer gives anyone nausea, then perhaps that's because Debussy does such a convincing job of representing the sea in sound...anyway, this is a superb set of recordings of these important works from the turn of the 20th century and can be downloaded in confidence.

"Floor" is right:this is an excellent recording of La Mer, Nocturnes and the Prélude à l'Après-Midi d'un Faune. As for Krisjan, it is alright not to be an expert on Classical Music: all you need is musical taste... and you obviously lack that!Debussy's music is one of the pinnacles of Western music, and if it makes you feel "nauseas", the fault is in you, not in the music itself!

I have no clue what you're actually reviewing, but whatever floats your boat...In any case, the LSO does a wonderful production of Debussy's La Mer. Highly recommended!

I downloaded the first three tracks of this album - so my review concern these only. The album has quite an intense dynamic range - very soft to very loud - whether it's just the particular recording or an inherent quality of the piece I am not sure. I am not an expert in classical music, and therefore cannot say for certain whether this is a good quality recording and interpretation of the piece in question, but my general impression is that it feels like typical movie or mood music that makes me nauseas to say the least.

Booty-Call Classical

By Rod Smith, eMusic Contributor

Nothing potentially says "howzabout it?" quite like classical music. Yet most seduction-oriented classical compilations are either too prim or based on some ridiculous premise that places impossible demands on orgone-stingy composers. (Given current marketing trends, Sixty-nine to Schubert might appear any day now.) Classical boudoir bait's effectiveness hinges not on the gentleness so often embodied by the aforementioned comps, but on rich melodies and lush harmonies — whether played by a solo pianist or a… more »
