They Say All Music Guide

A set of excellent and inspired ’50s transcriptions featuring Price and the Cherokee Cowboys at their very best. Before Price moved into a countrypolitan sound in the early ’60s, he was a honky tonk cowboy of the highest order and tracks like “I’ll Be There (If You Ever Want Me),” “You Done Me Wrong,” “I’ll Sail My Ship Alone,” and “Don’t Let the Stars Get in Your Eyes” showcase this sound to great effect. The Cherokee Cowboys are spotlighted on two instrumentals, “Steel Guitar Jubilee” and “Back up and Push,” while Price sings two great gospel hymns, “Peace in the valley” and “The Old Rugged Cross,” ably backed by the Jordanaires. Another pure winner in this series and highly recommended. – Cub Koda
