I am a rocketman!

Torey

The Red Elvises were one of the greatest live bands I ever saw. The combination of Igor's Elvis-mocking clowning around, the oddity of Oleg's giant bass balileika and Z-Rock's incredible guitar skills was perfect. Z-Rock plays as if he were Brian Setzer raised by gypsies while listening to Mick Ronson and Dick Dale. He's one of the most technically proficient guitarists I've ever heard of and his range is incredible. As great as these guys were, 'I Want to See You Bellydance' is the only recording that really captures them. You'll be laughing at their wry, crass lyrics as you slowly realize this is an incredibly catchy record.

They Say All Music Guide

With a band name like Red Elvises, it’s a given that the group has tendencies toward zaniness. On I Wanna See You Bellydance, zany pretty much sums up the Red Elvises’ theatrical mix of surf, rockabilly and traditional Siberian music. Few surf-a-billy groups include balalaikas among their gear, but the Red Elvises find a way to make it sound natural, if quirky, within the context of the album. Rave-ups like the title track, “Rocketman” and “Voodoo Doll” feature tribal drums, twangy guitars, and raucous, Russian-tinged vocals, while “El Nino” shows off the group’s genuine intstrumetnal talent. “I’m Not That Kind of Guy” and “Sad Cowboy Song” show off the Red Elvises’ abundant sense of humor. For all its heavy kitsch, I Wanna See You Bellydance is entertaining — and has a surprisingly low annoyance factor. – Heather Phares
