This Ricardo Ray production include some of his very first hits, and although the recording certainly shows its age, it bristles with raw energy. “Yenyere,” “Cachita” (composed by Rafael Hernandez), and “El Dia Que Me Quieres” are touchstones that illuminate a newborn musical style. Vocals are by Bobby Cruz and Chivirico Dávila (a major influence in Cruz’s career). Splendid early effort, a must for Richie Ray and Bobby Cruz fans. – José A. Estévez, Jr.
