Richie Havens Talent Galore

ambientscott

I can barely think of another artist who has so much talent and yet he has been handled so poorly in a counter productive way that has probably not only hurt him artistically but financially as well. Here we have a recording that displays him in his best setting. Raw stripped down bare naked and all alone on the stage.

Soft and warm (but still with balls)

We all know about that Woodstock performace but I much prefer this one. There are some really lovely soft songs here, track 12 in particular but also some really good upbeat harder/driving ones such as the Watchtower cover. To my ears the best Haven set on E-music and in one word 'warm'

Really outstanding

You get a good sense of his warmth and character here. I suppose you had already gotten it from the Woodstock video, but here he's older and a sort of righteous kindness comes through. It sounds great. Great songs. Great singing. Genuinely beautiful.

If you like Richie Havens, you will be pleased with this live recording; it's nothing new and that's what you want from Richie. It gives a good representation of Richie's early and middle career He makes you feel the music. Outstanding!!
