Over the Top Goodness

hutchentoot

This is the best of the over the top goodness one can find anywhere.. in fact, you can almost hear Rick's cape swishing in the studio as he reaches over to the different keyboard racks, in fact.. I think I heard him stumbling towards in the studio whilst reaching over to a Yamaha DX7 almost falling over.. but he kept his feet because he is rick wakeman! If you are looking for second rate keyboard playing by an over the hill bumbling ivory tickler, then you need to buy something by that keyboard player in Emerson Lake and Palmer.. this is the real polyester deal.

Don't Kill the Dolphin!

I went to RWCC.com to ask why this wasn't on the discography, they said "another collection of the unknown, I fear". Rick Wakeman hasn't had the best luck with record companies, big or small. There are a few of these slewn together as budget items, thinking fans will buy them. The cover looks like a Roger Dean, but of course, it's a cheap imitation. Believe me. I had some of these on another semi-authorised compilation called "Classic Tracks", which he also could not stop.

Almost Live In Europe

Vagabond

Most of the tracks on this compilation seem to have been sourced from 'Almost Live In Europe' (released in 1995), 'Fields Of Green' (1996) and 1993's 'Classic Tracks'. More info at www.rwcc.com The 18 minute plus track 1 on Disc 2 is actually a medley of the following: Catherine Of Aragon/ A Crying Heart, part 1/ Jane Seymour/ A Crying Heart, part 2/ Catherine Howard. A wonderful reworking of three of the six wives interspered with some uninspired love songs.

As good as Yes

fduniho

Much here is equal in quality to the music of Yes, my favorite progressive rock group, of which Wakeman is a member. "Starship Trooper" is one of my favorite Yes songs, and this is a good performance, but the best is on Keys to Ascension. "Journey To The Centre Of The Earth" is just excellent. The original album kept interrupting the music with narration, and I'm happy to have it here without the narration. I love the "Catherine Of Aragon" music, but I'm not so fond of the unrelated song that interrupts this track. Finally, some track titles are misleading. The track called "Jane Seymour/A Crying Heart Part 2" is really "The Realisation/The Prisoner." This seems to be a different performance than on No Earthly Connection, for the singing doesn't sound as good. The track called "The Realisation/The Prisoner" is really "Lancelot And The Black Knight." The track called "Lancelot And The Black Knight" is really an instrumental version of the Beatles song "Eleanor Rigby."

Tales of Future And Past

Disc 1:Starship Trooper/Wurm was/is increditable and it literally blew by; the fastest 12 minutes I have yet encountered on eMu. This is a must have/get cut 4 your Rick Wakeman Library! The Myths & Legends Of King Arthur & The Knights of the Round Table reminded me of just how great a piano player Rick Wakeman was/is and the whole arrangement complmented his abilities! Another must have cut for your Libray.Disc 2:Catherine Of Aragon_A Crying Heart Part 1; again mere words can't express what this cut paints, it's a Rock Opera in 1 cut. And if you can only get 1 cut from this album, make it:Journey To The Centre Of The Earth! Over 30 minutes long and worth the price of membership 4 Wakeman affectionados! I have the Orginal album and this is far superior!
