Warm Chill
Hate to see Nathan's work ignored by reviewers. I have none of his recordings as yet, tho I'm downloading this one as I write. It must be at least 3-4 yrs now, but Rivulets performed a set at the defunct Twin Ports MAC in downtown Duluth, sharing a terrific night's bill with an Alan Sparhawk/If Thousands minimalist-soul-noise collaboration. (That's a whole 'nother novel). Rivulets' set--just him and his guitar--was beautiful/fragile, a meditation on solitude. Nathan's art defies comparison, it's something you have to experience firsthand. If I was pressed to offer a comparison for Rivulets...imagine Lou Barlow recording "Winning Losers" after a valerian tea binge. Sorry...that's the best I can come up with.
